I always have trouble leaving comments on the parentella site for some reason.
After 28 years of teaching, I've seen parents who don't care from all socio-economic strata (and yes, they're in the WAY minority), but I must say, the ones I've run into most frequently are from the upper socio-economic strata, not the lower. What I do find is that there are occasional cultural barriers, like the year I couldn't get my Hmong parents to come in for teacher's conferences because in their culture, apparently, the teachers should just know all, and to come in and question the teacher would be rude. So I went to their homes, instead. ;-) Yeah, pushy of me, but I wanted them to know how well their children were doing.
Oh, and you KNOW how I'd feel about kids missing recess because their parent didn't SIGN OFF on a homework sheet.
